CALIFORNIA ENVIROTHON
It is with surprise and great glee, the California Envirothon has been able to pull together a coordinating group to conduct an all-day “Bare-Bones” California Envirothon Competition at UCLA Stunt Ranch Reserve in the Santa Monica Mountains of California on April 11, 2026! Throughout the year a number of folks have been regularly checking our website for competition up-dates with hope for a competition. Some complications have been overcome so that we decided to use that “steam” to keep our efforts moving for 2026!
This year we focus upon five the basics of natural resource testing in Soil, Forestry, Aquatics/Water Resources, Wildlife and a Scenario that focuses upon the National Conservation Foundation’s theme: “Non-Point Source Pollution – it Begins at Home!” Be ready to hike a bit between stations, and to carry on with just the basics. Be sure to check study guidelines here, www.caenvirothon.org and the National Conservation Foundation website at www.envirothon.org. Registration and Rules & Regulation forms will be sent out to the contacts already received; if your school team or organization would like to apply please send an return email contact and the name of you school/organization.

About Us
The California Envirothon is a natural resources and environmental competition for teams of high school students (grades 9-12) and youth organizations such as 4-H clubs.
Youth (ages 14-19) are provided resources to study the key areas of soils, wildlife, forestry, aquatic ecosystems, and the annual current study topic (e.g., climate change).
The teams are tested on their comprehension, critical thinking, and understanding of natural resources conservation, stewardship, and environmental protection.
CAE also extends its scope to include Native and Indigenous peoples and the close relationships with their culture and traditions to the environment. CAE offers youth the opportunity to learn the skills and tools necessary to create a path to success: collaborative team work, public speaking, and the willingness to learn new ideas.
