										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="p1"><span class="s1">“The 2021 CAE winning team, the Aquiferns, of Granada Hills Charter High School, recently concluded competing in the 2021 National Conservation Foundation Envirothon’s virtual event hosted by the State of Nebraska (July 25-28). The Aquiferns (pictured below, photo courtesy of Wendy Hagan, teacher advisor) placed 16th overall and second overall in Orals Finals. Forty one teams entered the International Envirothon competition and included teams from participating states as well as China and Canada. They were also the first recipients of the CAE Richard Lee Campbell Scholarship award.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Warm congratulations to the team and Wendy for their achievement and impressive orals and critical thinking skills. Despite the grueling pandemic restrictions, the team spirit prevailed! We are beaming with pride…&#8221;</span></p>

<p>The national Envirothon was held at North Carolina State University in Raleigh. Fifty three teams competed from across the U.S. and included teams from six Canadian provinces and two teams from China. The Red-winged Blackbirds placed 24th overall and clinched fifth place in Orals—a spectacular achievement! &nbsp;Marianne Maki, member of CAE’s Steering Committee and a high school environmental science teacher, traveled to the competition and witnessed the commendable performance of our team.</p>



<p>Congratulations to the team: Aminah Mahadi (team captain), Maya Bernstein, Zion Ramirez, Diego Padilla, and Kevin Urrutia! We are very grateful for the dedication and zeal of teacher advisor, Wendy Hagan, and team chaperon, Joshua Yang.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2019 California Envirothon winning team is the Granada Hills Charter High School</h2>



<p>The 2019 California Envirothon winning team is the &#8220;Red-winged Blackbirds” of Granada Hills Charter High School, Granada Hills, CA (photo). Team members include Aminah Mahadi, Maya Bernstein, Zion Ramirez, Diego Padilla, and Kevin Urrutia; Wendy Hagan is the teacher advisor. They will advance to the National Conservation Federation-Envirothon in Raleigh, NC, July 28-August 2, 2019.</p>

<p>Placing second was team “American Lions” of Arlington High School, Riverside, CA. Team members include Andrew Vargas, Molly DeWitt, Shevani Patel, Ravel Hall and Divya Babaria; Sheri Harris is the teacher advisor.</p>



<p>Placing third was team “The Ents” of Charter Oak High School, Covina, CA. Team members include Adrian Llamas, Jena Ornelas, Nishita Dashpute, Isha Tripathi, and Robert Flores; Pat Foy is the teacher advisor.</p>



<p>CONGRATULATIONS to our winning teams and to all the students and teachers who participated in this year’s event at the Huntley College of Agriculture, Cal Poly Pomona. Best of luck to the “Red-winged Blackbirds”at the National Envirothon!!</p>



<p>We also wish to express our deep gratitude to the many many volunteers, judges, and sponsors who helped make our 2019 event a success and filled with discovery, fun and creativity!</p>
